ACWA Power International has made its first sortie outside of Kingdom of Saudi Arabia with a purchase of 58% stake in Barka 1 IWPP in Oman. The vendors are AES Corporation and IDB Infrastructure Fund. The Natural Gas is used as a fuel in the combined cycle facility for power generation and multi stage flash (MSF) technology is used for desalinated water production.
Located in Oman, 60km north of Muscat on Indian Ocean, operational with 427MW energy capacity; 91,000 m3/day water production and serves Muscat. The JV Partners are ACWA Power, Instrata, Multitech, 35% publically listed on Muscat Security Market and the off-taker is Oman Power and Water Procurement Co.
