We were pleased to update His Royal Highness Governor of Al Jouf region on the latest progress of Sakaka PV IPP – which we are extremely honoured to develop as the first renewable energy project in the Kingdom. Sakaka PV IPP supports the forward-looking vision of the Kingdom’s renewables program and goals of Vision 2030
“In reaffirmation of our commitment to strengthening Saudization in the Kingdom’s energy sector, we are proud of the project’s success in recruiting 90% of Saudi talents from Al Jouf region during the first year of operation. Our aim is to reach a 100 percent once the plant is fully operational. The project will also contribute to training Saudi youth to cultivate skills and expertise in the water and energy fields through ACWA Power’s Higher Institute for Water and Power Technologies.”, Abunayyan added.
Abunayyan emphasised that Sakaka PV IPP registered over 30 percent of contractual local content during the construction and development phase, which granted Saudi companies the platform to contribute to the implementation of similar progressive projects in the Kingdom.
Spanning over six square kilometres at Al Jouf, Sakaka IPP PV solar project is the first of a series of renewable energy projects within the ambitious Saudi national renewables program aiming to produce 58.7 GW of renewable energy in Saudi Arabia by 2030.
Awarded to an ACWA Power led consortium at a world record tariff of 8.781 halalas/kWh, the SAR 1.2 billion project will supply power to 45,000 of Al Jouf households through clean energy to offset over 430,000 tonnes of carbon dioxide a year.
