The Ministry of Health vaccinates over 850 employees and workers against Covid-19 at the Jubail 3A IWP site

Jubail, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, 26 August 2021: The Ministry of Health, represented by the Dammam Health Network - one of the components of the first health cluster in the Eastern Province - in cooperation with the Jazlah Water Desalination Company, has finished vaccinating over 850 employees working in the Jubail 3A project for seawater desalination, a project implemented and developed by a consortium led by ACWA Power in the Jubail region. The initiative is part of the national campaign which was launched in accordance with the royal directives issued by the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, to combat the spread of Covid-19 in the Kingdom, and falls within the framework of the continuous efforts led by the government to vaccinate all citizens and residents in the Kingdom against the virus.

The implementation of the vaccination campaign comes within ACWA Power’s commitment to preserve the health and safety of its people, including employees, partners and contractors, in compliance with the precautionary measures implemented by the Ministry of Health and official authorities to ensure that all citizens and residents are vaccinated, and within the framework of the preventive measures applied by the Saudi government and all relevant authorities to curb the spread of the virus in the kingdom.

Abunayyan also expressed his appreciation to Jazlah Water Desalination Company for their close cooperation with the Ministry of Health and for implementing the vaccination campaign at the highest level of safety and efficiency, under the supervision of Dr. Wael Albanyan, CEO of Jazlah Water Desalination Company, and leadership of Eng. Abdullah Al-Jibran, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the company, and to the partners of Jazlah Water Desalination, including the Gulf Investment Corporation and Al-Bawani Water and Energy Company.

The campaign was carried out with the support of His Excellency Mr. Abdullah Al-Askar, Governor of Jubail, and Eng. Khaled Al-Quraishi, Head of Water Partnerships, and in coordination with the Ministry of Health, which included setting a schedule for the second dose at the company’s site in Jubail to be given to over 850 employees of the company, including the project contractors.

The campaign team from the Ministry of Health included Muhammad Al-Issa, Ahmed Ali Al-Ghomgham, Zainab Jawad Al-Marihel, Hussein Hashem Al-Abdullah, Taqi Abdul-Moneim Al-Sheikh, Hamad Salem and Muhammad Al-Daghdough.

While the team from Jazlah Water Desalination Company, who supervised the successful and efficient implementation of the vaccination campaign at the station's headquarters included Mr. Fahad Al-Shammari, Eng. Muayyad Shukri, Director of Security, Health and Safety, Eng. Talal Badawi, Deputy Project Director, and Abdullah Al-Zoubi, Deputy Director of Safety and Security, Hajar Al-Qahtani, Business Support Manager, Sarah Al-Buainain, and Saad Al-Hajri.

In July 2020, ACWA Power constructed of an integrated field hospital with a capacity of 100 beds in Medina. This was transferred to the Ministry of Health in less than 60 days and was implemented with the participation of the national energy sector in enhancing the efforts of the Saudi government and the Ministry of Health to confront the repercussions of the Covid-19 pandemic in the Kingdom. The hospital was inaugurated under the patronage and presence of His Royal Highness Prince Faisal bin Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, Prince of Medina, and in the presence of His Excellency Dr. Tawfiq bin Fawzan Al-Rabiah. His Highness called the hospital “Nujoud Al-Khaibri Center” in a humanitarian gesture to honour the martyr Nujood Al-Khaibri,the first Saudi nurse who was martyred while performing her duty treating Covid-19 cases.

On the other hand, Jazlah Water Desalination Company is the first private sector project in the Jubail region to produce 600,000 cubic meters per day of desalinated water at the lowest international tariff, with the aim of achieving water security within the Kingdom’s vision 2030. One of the most important features of the project is the use of solar energy to reduce carbon emissions. The commercial operation of the plant is expected to start in December 2022.

It is also worth mentioning that ACWA Power is leading a consortium consisting of the Gulf Investment Corporation and Al-Bawani Water and Energy to construct the Jubail 3A IWP project using sea water reverse osmosis desalination technology in the city of Jubail, with an investment value of US$650 million, and according to a 25-year Water Purchase Agreement with the Saudi Water Partnerships Company. The consortium is responsible for the design, financing, construction, operation and maintenance of the plant, in addition to the project's potable water storage and electrical facilities.
